Thoughts on the T20WC Squad

Image
With all due respect to all the players, I'll be just writing my opinion in this blog post which will be backed by some stats and past performances. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in UAE and Oman in October and a few nations have already named their squads that are going to take part in the world cup. India announced their World Cup squad on 8th September. It looks like a well-balanced squad with a few fast bowlers and a rather spin-dominant bowling attack. The Squad:   Virat Kohli  (captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami. Reserves: Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer Ravichandran Ashwin has made a comeback in the white-ball format as the selectors have trusted him to do the job on the Spinning tracks of UAE. Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakrava...

T20 World Cup Squad:

Image
India is expected to soon announce the 15 man squad they will take into the ICC T20 World Cup in October 2021 which will be held in UAE and Oman. The T20 Tournament was supposed to be conducted in India but due to the current Covid outbreaks, it was decided that the tournament will be conducted in UAE after the IPL.  India won the inaugural T20 World cup under the captaincy of MS Dhoni when we defeated Pakistan in 2007, after that we have only been in the final of the tournament once against Sri Lanka and we lost that final. After 5 years the tournament is returning and India would be hoping to win it this time.  Predicted Squad: 1. Virat Kohli (c) 2. Rohit Sharma 3. KL Rahul 4. Shikhar Dhawan 5. Rishabh Pant 6. Surya Kumar Yadav 7. Hardik Pandya 8. Jasprit Bumrah 9. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar 10. Deepak Chahar 11. Rahul Chahar 12. Yuzevendra Chahal 13. Mohammed Shami 14. Ravindra Jadeja 15. Prithvi Shaw This is a squad I am predicting and it is mostly based on the form these pl...

England Level the Series

Image
After a disappointing loss in the Lord’s Test, England has leveled the series in a very dominant manner. The third test was a near-perfect match for the hosts. India’s performance on the other hand was not up to the mark. Indian team suffered 2 batting collapses even though they fought hard in the second innings. Anderson lead from the front in the first innings and took a fiver, England’s batting was spot on as their new opening pair stitched a partnership of 100+ with both of them reaching 50+ scores. Dawid Malan’s comeback to the test team was also perfect as he scored 70 along with Joe Root hitting yet another 100.  England made 422 runs, India was trailing them by 300+ runs. KL Rahul departed soon as the Indian team came out to bat the second time, Rohit and Pujara had a good partnership of around 100 runs as Rohit continued his good...

Third Test: Preview

Image
After the heroics of Lord’s, Leeds is the next stop for team India as the third test match will be played there. India has won both the last test matches they played here and will be looking forward to making it 3 in a row. Indian team looks well settled as we move ahead in the series and a change in the team is not really expected. England’s Mark Wood was injured during the second test and is ruled out of the third test, England was already having problems with their bowling attack as Stuart Broad got injured and now Mark Wood. Saqib Mahmood and Craig Overton are the 2 possible replacements for Mark, looking at the way Saqib bowled in the ODI series against Sri Lanka it is very much possible Saqib is handed his first debut test match. Leeds has been a venue for some of the iconic batting performances and is a goof pitch to bat on, Ben Stokes’s iconic Ashes knock came in this ground only and we’ll be hoping for another cracker of a game when India and England play on 25 th Augus...

Conquering Lord’s :

Image
Virat Kohli became the third Indian captain to register a Lord’s test win after Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni and what a victory it was. England entered day 5 as favorites and Indian fans were only hoping for a draw because the team was in a position from where a win was looking a little too optimistic. We forgot that this current Indian team always goes for the win and that is what happened in this one too, a very special victory. India owned the first day as KL Rahul played one of the best knocks of his life as Rohit Sharma also scored crucial runs to put 364 on the board, Joe Root’s 180* helped England take a narrow lead as India went on to bat at the start of day 4, England bowler’s dismissed the Indian openers early in the innings as the pressure surrounded the Indian team. Pujara and Rahane stitched up a 100+ runs partnership to guide India into a safe position. As they both got out at the end of day 4 it was upon the tail to make sure we reach a respectable total. All eyes were on Rish...

Back to Lord's

The first test was a cracker but unfortunately, the weather was not in a mood to give us a result. India was looking good to win the test match as we only needed 150 odd runs to win the test match on the last day with 9 wickets in hand. India did most of the things right in the first test except for a little patch when the middle order collapsed but the second innings was washed out so judging anyone based on only one innings will be very unfair. The Indian team did not perform very well in 2018, the last time they played a Test at Lord’s, they will be looking to improve this performance this time. The team will be going without Shardul as he is ruled out due to an injury, which leaves a place open for Ashwin or another seamer. In my opinion, the Indian team should go with Ashwin as he brings in a lot of experience and can adapt to conditions very quickly. Seeing England is also bringing in Moeen Ali as bowling as well as batting option, India should look at Ashwin too. The skies a...

England eyeing a comeback

Image
Day 1 concluded with India being on 21-0 as the openers looked solid in the last session. Day 2 began with perfect batting conditions as Rohit and KL stitched a partnership of 97. Rohit Sharma got dismissed in the 30s again as he went for a pull shot of Robinson’s bouncer and the ball went directly into the hands of Sam Curran.     Pujara came in after lunch as a little bit of cloud cover grew. Pujara was in only for a little while before he nicked one to Buttler off Anderson. As Pujara departed the Indian skipper walked towards the crease, with Anderson on the bowling end it was the perfect matchup we were waiting for. Anderson bowled an amazing outswinger as Kohli edged the first ball to Buttler. England’s team was elated as they got the big fish. Rahane came in next but went soon after as he was run out by Bairstow. England was back in the game as the batting conditions got tougher. Bad light stopped play for a while before the rain took over and the play was abandoned...
