Thoughts on the T20WC Squad

With all due respect to all the players, I'll be just writing my opinion in this blog post which will be backed by some stats and past performances. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in UAE and Oman in October and a few nations have already named their squads that are going to take part in the world cup. India announced their World Cup squad on 8th September. It looks like a well-balanced squad with a few fast bowlers and a rather spin-dominant bowling attack.

The Squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami.

Reserves: Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer

Ravichandran Ashwin has made a comeback in the white-ball format as the selectors have trusted him to do the job on the Spinning tracks of UAE. Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy are also trusted after their consistent performances in the IPL and also in the series against Sri Lanka. Yuzi Chahal has been rested which has come as a shock for me because of the way he has bowled in the past times and has been the No.2 spinner in the format.

Shikhar Dhawan has also been rested as per the reports which again is not a good option according to me looking at the way he has been playing in the last 2 seasons of IPL, winning orange caps in both seasons.  Ishan Kishan is an explosive batsman but in a tournament like a world cup a certain amount of experience is important and hence I think Shikhar Dhawan would have been a better choice over Ishan.
